CAC helps community members be effective advocates by providing assistance to those who have an interest of public concern they want to address but are not sure where to start, what kind of actions to take, or how to interact with a government entity.
Resources - Tools to educate, inspire and activate:
Education on civic skills, community organizing and legal resources to effectively advocate
Hands-on training in how to apply advocacy skills to a particular issue of public concern
Guidance in demystifying the government decision-making processes and identifying opportunities and barriers to effective advocacy
Community discussions to stimulate awareness of issues
Goal - Create Civically Healthy Communities with:
Informed community members who know where and how to educate themselves regarding issues of public concern
Active community members who know basic advocacy tools and how to apply them to any issue of public concern
Confident community members who view participation in civic affairs as a healthy daily habit
Impact - Broad Civic Participation:
Once community members experience how to impact the community they live in, civic confidence and participation increases. Increased civic confidence and participation results in an expansion of the issues followed beyond one's community because of understanding how regional and state issues affect the local level, and conversely how the local level can impact a region or state. Broad civic participation also has a positive impact on government affairs because public officials and administrators come to expect, encourage, and value public participation, thereby increasing public confidence.
