The Community Advocacy Center addresses issues that make the democratic process more accountable, transparent, and accessible.
CAC's primary issues relate to *accessing the democratic process.* CAC addresses these issues through: 1) building the public's capacity to apply basic advocacy tools to self-identified issues of public concern and 2) advocating for best practices that maximize accountable, transparent and accessible government and dismantling institutional barriers to the democratic process that may be rooted in local or state law.
Regardless of the specific community concern, a healthy democracy mandates having strong policies and procedures that enable meaningful public participation. The following are examples of issue areas:
- Access to government held information
- Access to government meetings
- First Amendment Rights
- Ethics in Government
- Lobbying
- Good Government Operations
- Campaign Finance
- Redistricting
